Dr. Grace Foley is the pyschological profiler for the Metropolitan Police Department's Cold Case Squad on the BBC's television series Waking the Dead. Grace is confident and assured in her analysis of the criminal mind. Grace is oftentimes called upon to answer the question, "what type of person could commit such a crime?" To get a result, Grace must combine technical know-how of the elements of the crime with the psychological analysis of what motivates a person to do the act. Perhaps the most challenging part of Grace's job is managing the leader of the Cold Case Squad, Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd. Grace is well aware that her profession frustrates Boyd, yet despite his reservations, Grace has convinced him to recognize the utility of the esoteric.
